Pop-up performances in Quanzhou bring ICH culture alive

The traditional dance performance titled "Elegant Dance Bonding the Maritime Silk Road" was held from Dec 12 to 14 in Quanzhou.

The event attracted 14 dance troupes from six countries, including Serbia and Thailand, as well as domestic regions such as Taiwan and Zhangzhou. The troupes performed at various places, including ancient city streets and schools, fostering cultural exchanges beyond boundaries.

This year's event featured pop-up performances, with seven dance troupes from different regions performing on Dec 12 at Chongwu Ancient City in Hui'an county, presenting shows that blended Silk Road elements with Minnan characteristics.

At the event, an art troupe from Taiwan presented the dance Wear the 'alofo. The 'alofo is a cherished adornment for both men and women of the Amis people, carries unique cultural significance.

In addition, a dance troupe led by an associate professor from Thailand performed the Nora dance, a folk dance featuring Southeast Asian style, on Dec 14 at the Quanzhou Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Museum.

The mobile and immersive performances at the event have tied audiences closely with performers and brought the static ICH alive. The event enables both residents and visitors to experience the charm of ICH from all over the world, boosting its popularity and influence.
