The Quanzhou International Nanyin Symposium was launched on Dec 10, attracting over 600 enthusiasts from 42 global associations. The event is a centerpiece of the 2025 Maritime Silk Road International Cultural Tourism Festival and spans five days of diverse activities.
Highlights include an innovative performance featuring artists from Singapore and the United States, showcasing cross-border programs with top local Nanyin performers. These programs aim to explore contemporary expressions of Nanyin and demonstrate its enduring artistic vitality.
"The symposium is a vibrant gathering for Nanyin enthusiasts, featuring rounds of singing and ensemble performances that highlight the tradition's international development," said Wang Cai'e, the event director. The opening ceremony adhered to traditional Nanyin performance guidelines while bringing new vitality to this intangible cultural heritage.
Organizers emphasize that the event serves as a cultural bridge, strengthening ties among overseas Chinese communities and promoting the spirit of the Maritime Silk Road. They hope it will inspire more people to explore Nanyin and encourage younger generations to embrace and carry forward this rich tradition, enhancing cultural identity and spiritual connection.
