The 15th Quanzhou International Nanyin Symposium is set to take place from Dec 9 to 13 in Quanzhou, Fujian province. This prestigious cultural event, with a history spanning over 40 years, will once again unite Nanyin enthusiasts from around the globe.

Nanyin referred to as a "living fossil" of music, is one of the four oldest forms of Chinese music that is preserved in its original state. Since its inception in 1981, the symposium has attracted over 100,000 participants from more than 20 countries and regions, becoming a renowned international platform for intangible cultural heritage preservation and exchange.

Spanning five days, the event will feature a diverse program including traditional rituals, classic performances, and innovative dialogues. It will bring together about 17 overseas teams from countries such as the Philippines, Singapore, and the United States, as well as China's Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions, along with roughly 25 domestic teams from across the country. More than 600 Nanyin artists and enthusiasts will gather in Quanzhou to perform this ancient art.

The opening gala is structured into four thematic chapters, tracing Nanyin's evolution from its historical origins to its vibrant presence today in modern society, schools and overseas communities. The program will include a collaborative performance of a classic piece by artists from home and abroad, the award-winning composition "Soul of Nanyin", a lively segment presented by primary and secondary school students, and culminate in a grand ensemble performance of the celebrated piece Plum Blossom Melody.

A special highlight will be a segment featuring guest performances by Singapore's Impressions of the Nanyang Arts Association and overseas-based Chinese artists. This segment seeks to explore contemporary interpretations of Nanyin, showcasing its enduring relevance and artistic vitality.
