West Street in East China's Fujian province's Quanzhou city has a history of more than 1,300 years, dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The thoroughfare was built on high ground to avoid flooding and it boasts the title of the settlement's earliest block. Today's West Street begins at the Bell Tower in the east and ends at Chengxi Road in the west, and it is the most intact ancient street in the city. The road passes numerous cultural relics and ancient houses that date back to the Tang and Song (960-1279) dynasties. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]
