The website consists of six main sections, including “Home”, “Press Center”, “Event Center”, “Jinjiang, China”, “About Us” and “Service Center”. Each main section also includes many sub-sections.

Founded in 1974, the Gymnasiade, an international multisport event for teens organized by the Brussels-based International School Sport Federation, is held every two years.

In October 2017, Jinjiang successfully won its bid to host the 2020 Gymnasiade, becoming only the second Chinese city to host the event after Shanghai in 1998.

The 2020 Gymnasiade will include 241 competition items including track and field, archery, badminton, basketball, chess, diving, fencing, football, aerobics, competitive gymnastics, artistic gymnastics, judo, skipping rope, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, wrestling, and martial arts.
