Quanzhou, a city in East China's Fujian province, welcomed the planned location there of 71 new major projects, worth 102.15 billion yuan ($14.43 billion), during a signing ceremony held via a video link on April 25, according to local officials.

Officials said that 15 projects are worth more than 1 billion yuan, while two will involve investment of more than 10 billion yuan. The largest single project will lead to investment topping 36 billion yuan.

The projects not only include traditional industries such as textiles, shoes, clothing, home furnishing, food and beverage, but also cover emerging industries, such as modern semiconductors and medical health.

Quanzhou is a top home base for overseas Chinese in China. Its total economic output has ranked number one in Fujian province for 21 consecutive years and its gross domestic product is expected to exceed 1 trillion yuan in 2020.

Despite the impact of the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic, in the first quarter of this year, the return to work and production by Quanzhou’s business and industry was the highest in the province.

In late March alone, Quanzhou signed 81 projects with a total investment of 44.3 billion yuan, officials said.
