The 2020 China (Shishi) Online Commodities Live Expo kicked off in Shishi, a county-level city in Quanzhou, a city in East China's Fujian province, on March 18, according to local officials.

Under the auspices of the Shishi government and sponsored by five major broadcast agencies, the expo will last five days, aiming to promote the city's clothing, food and tourism sectors.

The expo also organized e-commerce live broadcasts for training staff of companies and merchants.

Local officials said the total hits on all platforms exceeded 450 million on the opening day and the live network broadcast brought in e-commerce transactions worth 230 million yuan ($32.51 million).

After more than 30 years of development, Shishi has more than 8,000 upstream and downstream textile and apparel companies, most of which are small and medium-sized enterprises.

Live broadcast e-commerce has become a new format in the e-commerce industry. Shishi is riding that trend, leveraging the advantages it already has in abundant supplies, fast logistics and a complete supply chain.

Shishi next plans to harness popular live broadcast platforms such as Taobao and Kuaishou, allowing more high-quality Shishi enterprises to secure online supplies to alleviate order difficulties.

Taking its experiences with live expos as a starting point, Shishi will continue to hold various live broadcast events regularly and launch a series of policy measures to support the development of the live broadcast sector.
