Fujian's health authorities announced that 101 confirmed cases of pneumonia caused by the coronavirus -- including 18 in Quanzhou city -- had been reported in the province by the end of Jan 29.

Kang Tao, secretary of Quanzhou Party committee and chief commander of the Municipal Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia Emergency Command, and Mayor Wang Yongli went to various districts and counties in Quanzhou to inspect local disease prevention and control measures.

Government officers from the local public security bureau, transportation office and urban management office, set up 24-hour body temperature checkpoints at the Nan'an entrance to the Quanzhou Expressway.

Officials said that all vehicles from outside Quanzhou are required to register at the checkpoints.

In Dongtian Town, Nan'an, Kang had a discussion with local government officials and entrepreneurs to learn about the difficulties being encountered during the epidemic prevention process.

Meanwhile in Xunzhong Town, Dehua, Mayor Wang Yongli visited a community clinic and asked the medical staff in detail about the treatment of people with abnormal body temperatures, encouraging them to carry on the battle against the epidemic.

The mayor affirmed the hard work of the medical staff and stressed the urgency of early reporting, isolation and diagnosis.
