Quanzhou’s foreign trade increases by 13.9% in 2019

The city of Quanzhou in eastern Fujian province maintained solid foreign trade growth in 2019, according to information released by Quanzhou customs on Jan 21.

The total value of foreign trade in the city was 211.18 billion yuan ($30.53 billion) last year, representing growth of 13.9 percent compared with that in 2018.

Of the total, exports accounted for 145.35 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 21.9 percent, while imports were 65.83 billion yuan, a decrease of 0.4 percent.

Analysts said that after breaking down the different types of trade, traditional labor-intensive products dominated exports.

Exports of labor-intensive products in seven categories -- textiles, clothing, furniture, luggage, footwear and plastic products and toys -- reached 91.66 billion yuan, up 16.5 percent and accounting for 63.1 percent of the total value of exports.

In addition, more than 200 new high-tech enterprises were registered in Quanzhou in 2019. Exports of mechanical and electronic products with high added-value increased by 27.1 percent and 58.7 percent, respectively.

In 2019, the value of imports and exports from private enterprises in Quanzhou totaled 122.11 billion yuan, accounting for 57.8 percent of the city's total foreign trade, an increase of 26.9 percent year on year.
