Quanzhou’s GDP hits record

Quanzhou's GDP reached 994.67 billion yuan ($144.86 billion) in 2019, ranking it first in East China’s Fujian province for 21 consecutive years, according to statistics released by the Quanzhou municipal statistics bureau on Jan 20.

Local officials said that the city's GDP was originally targeted to increase by 7-7.5 percent year on year.

But preliminary calculations based on a report on the fourth China national economic census showed that Quanzhou’s GDP grew by 8.0 percent last year -- 0.4 percentage points higher than that of Fujian, ranking it second in the province.

With regard to industry distribution, the added value of the primary industry in Quanzhou was 21.86 billion yuan, an increase of 2.4 percent year on year.

The added value of the secondary industry was 58.55 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.3 percent, and the added value of the tertiary industry was 387.28 billion yuan, an increase of 7.8 percent compared with that in 2018.

Officials said 2019 marked the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and was also a year of great significance in the process of reform and development in Quanzhou.

In addition, according to the results of the preliminary revision of the GDP of each city in 2018 after the fourth China national economic census, the total GDP of Quanzhou in 2018 was 901.92 billion yuan, an increase of 55.13 billion yuan over the initial calculation.
