The 2019 Jinjiang Cultural and Tourism International Marathon kicked off recently in Jinjiang city in Quanzhou, Fujian province, according to the organizers.

Nearly 15,000 runners from 20 countries and regions started their Sunday morning at the southeast city of China. They ran across a series of local landmarks such as the Oasis Park, Jinjiang People Statue and City Eyes Square.

Li Xiuhua, vice-secretary general of the Chinese Athletics Association, Zhang Wenxian, mayor of Jinjiang city and various government officials attended the opening ceremony.

After fierce competition, both the men's and women's full marathon champions and the men's and women's half marathon champions were won by Ethiopian runners, who set a new record for the Jinjiang Marathon.

Getaneh Fekadu Wondafrash won the men's championship in two hours, 19 minutes and 42 seconds, while Zewoldemariam Kebebush Yisma won the women's championship in a blistering 2 hours, 36 minutes and 55 seconds.
