The Quanzhou Bay Cross-sea Bridge in the city of Quanzhou, in East China's Fujian province, took another major step forward to its completion, as the main south tower of the first cross-sea high-speed rail bridge in China was capped on Sept 15.

The bridge, about 20.29 kilometers in length, is an integral part of the Fuzhou-Xiamen railway. It is a semi-floating cable-stayed bridge with twin towers and double cable planes.

It includes two main towers in the north and south. Each tower is 160.25 meters high, equivalent to the height of a 50-story building.

Spanning 277.42 kilometers, the railway is scheduled for completion in 2022, which will cut the trip from the cities of Fuzhou to Xiamen in Fujian province to less than one hour.

It will also serve as an important extension of the Beijing-Fuzhou High-speed Railway, so six cities in Fujian province can access Beijing by high-speed rail.
