Quanzhou firms transfer production to aid virus fight

It has been estimated that by the end of February the production capacity of masks and protective clothing in Quanzhou, a city in East China's Fujian province, will be 3.5 million and 20,000 items per day, respectively.

That's according to a top Quanzhou official speaking at Fujian's sixth press conference on Feb 12, on moves to prevent and control the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic.

Hong Ziqiang, executive vice-mayor of Quanzhou, told the news conference that previously there had been no production in the city of masks, protective clothing and other epidemic prevention materials.

Hong underlined how rapidly the production system for epidemic prevention materials had been formed.

According to preliminarily estimates, on Feb 15 the daily production capacity of Quanzhou for masks and protective clothing was 1.2 million and 7,500 pieces, respectively.
