Dehua county is located in the middle of Fujian province and the north of Quanzhou. It has a county area of 2,232 square kilometers, a registered population of 341,000, and 18 townships and 214 administrative villages (communities) under its jurisdiction.

Dehua county has a long history of ceramic production. It was the birthplace of Chinese ceramic culture and one of the three major ancient porcelain cities. Over 80 percent of the county's ceramic products are exported to more than 190 countries and regions.

Dehua is one of the 10 key export counties (cities) in Fujian province, and the largest production and export base of craft ceramics in China.

In 2018, the county's GDP reached 24.62 billion yuan ($3.5 billion) and its general public budget revenue totaled 1.83 billion yuan.
