Digitization new driver behind manufacturing sector in Quanzhou

In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, East China's Fujian province held a press conference in Fuzhou on Sept 5 outlining the achievements Fujian has made over the past 70 years.

Wang Yongli, mayor of Quanzhou, discussed the digital transformation of the city's manufacturing industry at the conference.

Wang said that Quanzhou is a national-level e-commerce demonstration city. The city's online retail sales have grown by more than 30 percent over the past three years, and totaled 141.5 billion yuan (19.86 billion) in 2018, accounting for nearly 40 percent of Fujian’s total. Nearly one billion packages were delivered using the city’s express delivery system, ranking 10th in China.

More than 50 percent of the city’s enterprises have become largely automated, and the city's industrial internet is among the best in the country, with more than 1,000 enterprises engaging in internet-based informatization application, Wang added.

In 2018, the industrial output value of Quanzhou's manufacturing industry reached 1.82 trillion yuan, ranking 12th in the nation. In addition, the city has been promoting the development of digital industry, and a digital industrial chain is taking shape.
